It's actually still good on a few enemies as a stun/knockback (like Guardian Dogs), but not a whole lot else. Though I should mention it's weak at first damage wise because it has a charge up period. As you said, the beam is quite weak now and gets fully absorbed by enemy bullets, which means it's often little help during bullet hell fights, and in places like Scrapyards, the beam is 100% defeated by a single flame turret. He isn't even very good for bosses like someone else suggested, since pre-loop you have very limited used of the beam (or none if you just levelled before/during the boss fight, which happens all the time) and post-loop it just won't help you for very long. He is (or was) my favorite character and he used to be godly, but no, he's pretty bad - especially for a newer player. Vlambeer Twitter (Head here for updates and news!)
